My Background
I have loved drawing and painting from a young age when I used pencil to copy the illustrations from Beatrix Potter books, progressing in my teenage years to replicating album covers in oils. My fascination with portraits began soon after, and I would practise achieving the likeness of subjects whenever I got the chance! A few years on

My fascination with portraits began soon after, and I would practise achieving the likeness of subjects whenever I got the chance! A few years on (many, if truth be told), I decided that producing pieces of art for other people to enjoy would become a major part of my life. So now, as an artist, I invite you to peruse my portfolio and find an original or print for your own space.

My major love currently is coloured pencil. So many different effects can be achieved with this medium and although it's not the quickest of processes (to say the least), I love the result!
Watercolour also features amongst my portraits, when a more loose style is called for, and I have been known to branch out into landscapes as well,

Watercolour also features amongst my portraits, when a more loose style is called for, and I have been known to branch out into landscapes as well, on the odd occasion! A recent watercolour of 'Dark Hedges' in Northern Ireland, was colour matched to complement the client's décor. Who says you can't paint trees in any colour you like?!

Colours and emotions. I paint whatever speaks to me. If I find it attractive, someone else will too. If something is going to be hung on my wall, it needs to be a piece that I'm going to stop and look at often, and never fall out of love with, and see something different every time.

There's a connection with every portrait; a conversation has been had along the way from conception to the final mark. The connections that perhaps I could have had years ago with real people but never jumped on the opportunities that presented themselves at the time. Too late for that now, but every portrait contains the thoughtful moments I'm sure we've all had, at one time or another.
